Who We Are

Professional Wavers was created by a Black Lawyer who unashamedly showcased the millennia-old Black and Brown culture of wearing 360-degree waves in his professional settings of a big law firm and federal courtrooms. When his non-Black and Brown colleagues saw him wear a durag at the gym, they felt compelled to ask him why he wore a durag as they had always associated durags with thugs. When he explained to them what the durag was for and showed them the way he trained his hair to do something only Black and Brown people can do, given the texture of their hair, his colleagues had to rethink all they thought they knew about what durags represent. Knowing him to be a skilled and competent attorney, they were immediately forced to challenge their preconceived notions and assumptions the next time they got on the subway and saw young Black and Brown kids wearing durags.

They had to recognize the hard work and diligence those kids were showing, the discipline it took them to get waves and the culture reaching back to prehistory that those kids were connected to, largely through oral tradition.

Seeing the potential of wearing waves in a professional setting for bringing lasting appreciation for Black and Brown culture and real reconciliation between the races, that young Black lawyer set out to find the highest quality products and most professional materials so that what happened at his law firm could happen in all professional settings. Black and Brown waving culture is ancient and still speaks to the historic discipline and the relentless pursuit of progress and excellence that our people have exhibited since time immemorial.
